UKIP welcomes Tory selection

The UKIP candidate for Bromley & Chislehurst, Nigel Farage MEP, has welcomed the selection of Conservative GLA leader Bob Neil as the Tory candidate for the by-election.

Mr Farage said: "David Cameron may not have succeeded in having an A-list candidate selected, but Bob Neil is clearly the next best thing. A Clarkite supporter of the Euro, in favour of adding to Britain's immigration problems by welcoming the accession of Romania and Bulgaria and a fervent supporter of the EU, it is difficult to imagine a candidate more designed to drive traditional Conservatives to UKIP.

"His time as the GLA member for Bexley & Bromley, during which he has felt no need to actually live in the constituency he represents, has seen local resident's council tax bills rise hugely. Is there a clearer indication of his support for George Osbourne's refusal to pledge cuts in taxation?

"I look forward to a serious political battle with Mr Neil attempting to defend the Conservative's transformation into Blue Labour."
